Who We Are

Ballet Manila is a world-class ballet company and school based in Pasay City, Philippines. Founded in 1995 by prima ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde, the company has grown into one of the country’s most prolific and respected ballet institutions.

Guided by the philosophy of "Ballet for the People," Ballet Manila combines artistic excellence with a strong sense of cultural advocacy. With over 50% of its current artists trained in the rigorous Russian Vaganova method, the company is known for both classical precision and expressive storytelling.

Our Mission

Our mission is to preserve the rich tradition of classical ballet while making it accessible to a broader audience across the Philippines and beyond. We strive to:

  • Cultivate world-class Filipino ballet dancers
  • Promote ballet as an inclusive, transformative art
  • Enrich lives through live performances, outreach programs, and dance education

Our History

From its humble beginnings, Ballet Manila quickly gained recognition for its technical excellence and compelling performances. Over the years, the company has staged numerous full-length classics, contemporary works, and original Filipino ballets that celebrate the country’s culture and stories. Internationally, Ballet Manila has represented the Philippines on global stages in Europe, Asia, and North America, earning acclaim for its discipline, artistry, and cultural pride.

The Lisa Macuja School of Ballet

As the official training arm of the company, the Lisa Macuja School of Ballet (formerly Ballet Manila School) nurtures the next generation of Filipino dancers. With a faculty composed of professional dancers and certified instructors, the school offers programs for beginners, pre-professionals, and aspiring professionals rooted in the Vaganova technique.

It also serves as a pipeline for future company members and a space where dance becomes a lifelong discipline and passion.

Our People

Ballet Manila is powered by a diverse ensemble of principal dancers, soloists, apprentices, and a committed artistic and administrative team. At its helm is Lisa Macuja-Elizalde, the first foreign soloist of the Kirov Ballet and a national icon in Philippine dance.
